The Tone:
This is an entry-level full-time development role at Nucor Corporation, with initial placements in Salt Lake City, Houston, Louisville, Cincinnati, and Kansas City. Nucor is North America’s largest steel and steel products manufacturer, recognized for its innovative sustainability practices and as the continent’s largest recycler. This program is designed to train individuals to become essential scrap buyers, contributing to the company’s core business, efficiency, and collective success. Participation in this program requires mobility and future relocation to various business-need locations.

The TL;DR

• Type: Full-time
• Location: In-person – Salt Lake City, Houston, Louisville, Cincinnati, Kansas City. Relocation required after training to any of Cincinnati, Houston, Kansas City, Louisville, Miami, Orlando, Salt Lake City, St. Louis, Tampa.
• Mission: Train individuals to become scrap buyers through hands-on experience in sales, market analysis, and customer relationship management within the recycling industry.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Safety Leadership: Learn and model Nucor’s “Safety First” culture, including OSHA practices and daily operational safety standards.
• Customer Relationships: Develop and support strong relationships with accounts to provide the best possible customer service.
• Market Expertise: Gain a deep understanding of the scrap recycling market through customer visits, mentor shadowing, and market trend learning.
• Forecasting & Communication: Become an expert in your regional marketplace and effectively communicate market forecasts.
• Problem Resolution: Interact with customers, vendors, suppliers, and teammates to resolve problems and master conflict resolution skills.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Business, Sales, Economics, Finance, or a related field. This is an entry-level development role.
• Experience: No specific years required; entry-level candidates are welcome.
• Skills: Exceptional communication, ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively, strong organizational skills, excellent customer service, adaptability, and the ability to make quick decisions with confidence.
• Bonus: Continuous improvement mindset, creative problem-solving skills, ability to interface effectively with customers and teammates, previous leadership experience, previous sales and/or customer service experience, and bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
