Safety Specialist 1 – Kiewit Energy | Kiewit
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Kiewit, located on one of our project sites and requiring regular travel and relocation. Kiewit is a financially stable company known for its broad range of specialized capabilities, commitment to people development, and outstanding performance in diverse, complex engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) projects, including oil, gas, refining, and chemicals. This role is crucial for reinforcing Kiewit’s guiding principle of “Nobody Gets Hurt,” by creating, supporting, and auditing safety programs to ensure successful implementation of site-specific safety plans in the field.

• Mission: To successfully implement and support the Site Specific Safety Plan in the field by ensuring work execution aligns with safety standards and providing resources for corrective actions.
• Tech Stack: KieTrac, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel
What You’ll Actually Do
• Safety Plan Management: Assist in developing, reviewing, updating, and communicating the Site Specific Safety Plan (SSSP) to all project personnel, including subcontractors.
• Field Safety Compliance: Exercise Stop Work Responsibility to enforce adherence to company policies, regulations, and planned work procedures, collaborating with craft workers daily to gain buy-in for safety programs.
• Hazard Identification & Correction: Complete daily documented hazard inspections and assist operations, craft, and subcontractors with implementing effective corrective actions.
• Incident Response & Prevention: Assist with KieTrac entry, conduct incident investigations, and implement effective solutions, while maintaining project safety files in compliance with OSHA/MSHA regulations.
• Safety Training & Support: Provide safety training on policies, procedures, OSHA/MSHA, NCCER, SIMS, orientation, and client-specific requirements, and assist with first aid.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-level professional with 0-2 years of construction safety experience, possessing knowledge of construction safety and current Federal and OSHA requirements.
• Experience: 0-2 years of construction safety experience, current certification in First Aid CPR, and OSHA 30.
• Skills: Working knowledge of computers and experience with Microsoft Word and Excel; strong organizational and time management skills; strong written and verbal communication skills; good attention to detail.
• Bonus: A degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Safety, or a related field of study is preferred, along with certification as a Safety Professional or Emergency Medical Technician.
