Job Description: Safety Intern
Peckham Industries offers a paid internship program designed to provide practical experience within their “family by choice” culture. The Safety Intern will assist the Safety Team with essential projects, gaining valuable career experience. Key responsibilities include:
• Reviewing and updating the safety program, LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) procedures, and SDS (Safety Data Sheet) online product inventory.
• Creating standard operating procedures (SOPs) adaptable to various locations.
• Developing electronic surveys and site-specific/hazard online training materials.
• Gaining experience in road construction, quarry, and plant field assessments.
Applicable Majors: Students pursuing a bachelor’s degree in safety and occupational health, or other relevant majors.
Program Details:
• Duration: Ten weeks, Monday, June 2, 2025, through Friday, August 8, 2025 (flexible based on student needs).
• Compensation: $21.00 per hour.
• Time Tracking: Employees are responsible for tracking their time using the company’s automated timecard system.
• Housing and Transportation: Interns are responsible for their own housing and transportation.
• Travel: The position may require up to 25-35% travel via personal vehicle to offices throughout New York and New England.
Requirements:
• Excellent attendance and punctuality.
• Strict adherence to all safety protocols, OSHA regulations, and procedures.
• Current enrollment at an accredited college or university with a 3.0 GPA or higher.
• Completed online application by Monday, May 5, 2025, including:
• Cover letter or paragraph stating major and reasons for interest.
• Resume (including LinkedIn profile, if applicable).
• One written recommendation from a current or previous employer, teacher, or professor.
• Proficient written and verbal English communication skills.
• Legal right to work in the U.S.
Work Environment:
The work environment varies depending on the internship placement, ranging from a professional office setting to a physical work environment involving heavy lifting, working near machinery, and exposure to loud equipment. Some internships may require prolonged periods of sitting or standing, as well as lifting, pulling, bending, kneeling, squatting, climbing, walking, reaching, driving, and repetitive motion.
