Job Description
Robotics Software Engineer Intern
The Robotics Software Engineer Intern plays a pivotal role in the research and development of cutting-edge technologies. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the advancement of autonomous systems, with a focus on areas such as computer vision, object recognition, path planning, and following. As an intern, you will be deeply involved in the entire lifecycle from research and development to prototyping.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate effectively within a team setting to achieve department goals and objectives.
- Maintain a positive and proactive attitude, even in a demanding and high-intensity work environment.
- Execute ad-hoc requests, which may involve reviewing, developing, and/or analyzing operational or department-specific processes to identify areas for improvement.
- Provide assistance in the setup, maintenance, and design of software modules and the overall system architecture.
- Lead and manage a dedicated research project throughout the internship, focusing on addressing key R&D challenges and contributing to innovative solutions.
- Undertake other duties and projects as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to contribute where needed.
Requirements
Education
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Electrical/Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field (preferred).
- Demonstrated superior academic achievements and leadership accomplishments (preferred).
Experience
- Prior hands-on experience with various robotic platforms, including ground robots, self-driving cars, quadrotors, robotic arms, and/or mobile robots.
Computer Skills
- Proficiency in programming languages such as C++ and Python.
- Previous experience developing within a Linux environment.
Additional Requirements
- Working knowledge of key robotics and computer vision tools including ROS (Robot Operating System), RViz, Gazebo, OpenCV, and PCL (Point Cloud Library).
- Familiarity with AI/ML (Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning) concepts.

Other Details
Work Hours
This is a temporary onsite intern position for summer 2026, located in Fort Smith, Arkansas. The internship is expected to start approximately on June 1, 2026. The typical work schedule will be between 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, with occasional irregular hours depending on project workload and requirements.
Travel Requirements
Minimal travel is expected (0%-25%).
Compensation
This is an hourly position, with compensation paid on a biweekly basis.
