About the Job:

As a Research Science intern with the Quantum Algorithms Team at CQC, you will be immersed in a challenging and innovative environment. This role focuses on developing novel quantum algorithms, evaluating the prospective applications of fault-tolerant quantum computers, and strengthening the long-term value proposition of quantum computing.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Work alongside global experts to develop cutting-edge quantum algorithms.
  • Evaluate the potential applications of fault-tolerant quantum computers.
  • Strengthen the long-term value and impact of quantum computing.
  • Apply methods of mathematical and numerical analysis to assess the performance of quantum algorithms.
  • Establish the advantage of quantum algorithms over classical algorithms.

We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in any of the following subareas related to quantum algorithms:

  • Quantum Chemistry
  • Many-Body Physics
  • Quantum Machine Learning
  • Cryptography
  • Optimization Theory
  • Quantum Complexity Theory
  • Quantum Error Correction & Fault Tolerance
  • Quantum Sensing
  • Scientific Computing
  • Among others

About The Team:

The Amazon Web Services (AWS) Center for Quantum Computing (CQC) is a multi-disciplinary team comprising theoretical and experimental physicists, materials scientists, and hardware and software engineers. Our mission is to develop a fault-tolerant quantum computer.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in a PhD in engineering, technology, computer science, machine learning, robotics, operations research, statistics, mathematics, or an equivalent quantitative field.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Ability to work 40 hours/week minimum.
  • Commitment to a 12-week maximum internship.
  • Ability to relocate to where the internship is based.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in a subarea of quantum algorithms or a related topic in theoretical quantum information science.
  • Knowledge of R, MATLAB, Python, or similar scripting language.
  • Interest in staying abreast of new research developments in the field of quantum computation.

Salary Information (Annual Pay for Internship):

The starting pay for this position is listed below. Final starting pay will be based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location. Starting Day 1 of employment, Amazon offers EAP, Mental Health Support, Medical Advice Line, and 401(k) matching.

  • USA, CA, Pasadena: $136,000.00 – $184,000.00 USD annually
  • USA, CA, San Francisco: $157,300.00 – $212,800.00 USD annually
