Equity Research Associate (Tech-focus) | Sands Capital

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Sands Capital, located in Arlington, Virginia on a hybrid schedule. Sands Capital is an active, long-term investor in leading innovative growth businesses, globally. This role is crucial for maintaining coverage of portfolio companies and evaluating new investment opportunities within the technology sector, directly contributing to the firm’s investment decision-making process.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Modeling: Build, maintain, and update detailed financial models and datasheets to support investment decision-making.
• Analysis: Gather and analyze data from primary and secondary sources to uncover valuable insights for company and industry research.
• Drafting: Draft investment cases, research notes, and other communications that clearly convey investment perspectives.
• Reporting: Write timely earnings notes following quarterly results from covered companies.
• Engagement: Prepare for and contribute to meetings with portfolio managers, company management teams, and industry experts.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, preferably in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related field, with a strong academic performance record.
• Experience: 1-3 years of experience analyzing businesses, either in sell-side research, investment banking, consulting, or an investment management role.
• Skills: Understanding of accounting principles and financial analysis (including 3-statement modeling), expertise in Excel, PowerPoint, and FactSet or Bloomberg, superior verbal and written communication skills, self-motivated nature, analytical mindset, and genuine passion for investment research.
• Bonus: Mandarin Chinese skills (spoken and reading) and familiarity with Claude Code.
