Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) – Acute Stabilization Center
Department/Program: OCFP – Tier II
Location: UM Capital Region – Largo, MD
Shift Type: Rotating shifts

Scheduling Commitment (OCFP Tier II):
Hours: Must self-schedule 96 hours in a 4-week schedule cycle.
Weekend Requirement: 32 of those 96 hours must be for weekends (Saturday/Sunday).

I. General Summary:
• This role requires greater than 12 months of experience.
• The RN provides and coordinates independent care to patients within a clinical specialty.
• Functions as a fully effective and participative member of the multidisciplinary patient care services team.

II. Principal Responsibilities And Tasks:

Clinical Practice:
• Provides independent care to the unit-specific patient population.
• Serves as a clinical resource for other staff.
• Utilizes and integrates evidence into practice.
• Functions effectively in roles specific to the unit.
Accountable to patients and families for care processes and outcomes during an episode of care.
Accountable to peers for advancing group practice on the unit, and to the nurse manager for overall work performance.
• Acts as an effective primary coordinating nurse.
Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to plan and coordinate care addressing patient/family needs.

Service/Quality:
• Assists in team development and evaluation of Patient and Family Centered Care principles.
• Suggests methods for improvement.
• Participates in data collection related to outcomes (e.g., handoffs, medication safety).
• Contributes to implementation efforts addressing Nursing Sensitive Quality Indicators (NSQI).
• Participates and contributes to Performance Improvement, Evidence Based Practice, or research at the unit level.
Complies with standards and participates in unit-level activities for regulatory compliance.

Unit Operations:
Supports charge nurse decisions.
• Performs the charge nurse role for assigned shifts as needed.
• Assists in the development of clinical practice protocols and standards for the unit.
• Participates in unit-based process activities (Performance Improvement, Professional Development, Clinical Practice, Teamwork, etc.).
• Assists in developing action plans and supports implementation.
Orients Clinical Nurse I to unit-level decision-making structure and councils.

Professional Development:
• Serves as a preceptor, coach, and mentor to new nurses and students.
• Contributes to ancillary personnel skills and development.
• Attends educational offerings and in-services independently.

Patient Safety:
• Ensures patient safety in job functions and through participation in hospital, department, or unit safety initiatives.
• Takes action to correct observed risks to patient safety.
Reports adverse events and near misses to appropriate management.
• Implements policies, procedures, and standards consistently.
• Develops effective working relationships and maintains good communication with team members.
• Identifies possible risks in processes, procedures, devices and communicates them.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:
Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland, or eligibility to practice via Compact state agreements.
One year of nursing experience is required.
• Solid knowledge and clinical skills.
Diploma in nursing or Associate’s Degree in nursing required.
Current BLS certification required.
• Unit-based licensure/certifications as required (e.g., NPR, STABLE, ACLS, Trauma 101).
• Maintenance of 10 contact hours of education every two years.
• Up-to-date status on all mandatory training and classes.
Recent applicable clinical experience in a comparable setting.

• Demonstrates highly effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Demonstrates leadership qualities (effectiveness as charge nurse, preceptor, or clinical resource).
• Demonstrates effectiveness as a multidisciplinary team member.
• Ability to learn and use computer systems for patient information management.
• Ability to participate in team-building efforts; supports and models teamwork.
• Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served.
• Ability to demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span and assess data reflective of patient’s population-specific and age-specific needs.

Compensation:

Pay Range: FLAT RATE: $53.60/hr
Other Compensation: Shift differentials may be applicable.
