About Google Quantum AI

Google Quantum AI is dedicated to building a large-scale quantum computer capable of tackling complex problems that are currently impossible for classical computers. Their mission is to advance the capabilities of quantum computing and unlock impactful applications.

The Quantum Error Correction Theory Team

This team focuses on designing and implementing error correction schemes, including logical gates and decoding algorithms. They work closely with experimentalists to implement error correction using superconducting qubits. Their research prioritizes codes suitable for this system, such as topological codes or LDPC codes.

Quantum Error Correction Research Scientist

As a Quantum Error Correction Research Scientist, you’ll play a crucial role in advancing Google’s quantum computing capabilities. You’ll be responsible for:

Research: Inventing new protocols or improving existing ones for quantum error correction, focusing on areas like compiling logical gates and implementing accurate decoding.
Software Development: Collaborating with software engineers to develop and maintain software supporting error correction.
Collaboration: Working closely with research scientists, software engineers, and hardware engineers in designing and implementing error correction experiments.
Data Analysis: Analyzing data collected from quantum error correction experiments.
Communication: Presenting research findings in internal and external presentations (including conferences), and publishing in academic papers.

Required Qualifications:

PhD: In Quantum Computing, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
Research Experience: In error correction or quantum computing.
Software Development: Experience writing software for research projects.
Publications: One or more scientific publication submissions for conferences, journals, or public repositories.

Preferred Qualifications:

Research Expertise: Recognized expertise in quantum error correction.
Software Development: Experience writing software to simulate or study quantum error correction.
Code Expertise: Research experience with surface codes, other topological codes, and LDPC codes.
Programming Skills: Proficient in C++.

Compensation:

Salary Range: $136,000-$200,000 (USD) per year.
Additional Benefits: Bonus, equity, and comprehensive benefits package.
Location: Los Angeles, CA or Goleta, CA.
