The Tone:
This is a regular, full-time role at General Dynamics Information Technology, primarily located in Chesapeake, VA, supporting bi-coastal waterfront operations. GDIT is a global technology and professional services company delivering solutions and mission services to U.S. government, defense, and intelligence communities. This position contributes to the strategic direction of the business, enabling critical government missions and ensuring operational success through robust Quality, Environmental, Health, and Safety (QEHS) operations. The role is vital for maintaining compliance, preventing incidents, and fostering a safe work environment for Navy and Marine Corps sector staff.

• Team: Leads a cross-functional QEHS organization, including functional team leaders and subject matter experts across Safety and Environmental, Quality Assurance, and the Quality Management System.
• Mission: Plans and coordinates Quality, Environmental, Health, and Safety activities to ensure GDIT compliance with Federal, State, and Local regulations for the Navy Marine Corps Sector.
• Tech Stack: ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, OSHA 29 CFR 1910/1915, NAVSEA Standard Items, QA requirements (009-004, 9090-310)

What You’ll Actually Do
• Develop and implement workplace safety policies and procedures in accordance with OSHA standards.
• Oversee the sector’s daily quality, environmental, and safety operations, identifying opportunities for improvement of safety regulations.
• Maintain GDIT Corporate certifications for ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 at the Chesapeake VA, California MD, and Pawcatuck CT locations.
• Manage a cross-functional QEHS organization, ensuring proper staffing, leadership, personnel development, and efficient execution of safety, quality, and compliance initiatives.
• Conduct risk assessments, audits, and inspections of work areas and jobsites to minimize workplace accidents, occupational illnesses, and identify quality issues.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor Degree. Career level: Director, with proven management experience dealing with complex work environments and a thorough understanding of shipboard safety and quality standards associated with modernization.
• Experience: At least 15 years’ experience as a Quality or Safety Manager in a complex safety environment, including developing and implementing Quality Plans and Surveillance Plans and Schedules, and leading Corrective Action and Continuous Improvement programs.
• Skills: Excellent knowledge of OSHA standards and federal safety legislation, solid knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices, expertise in Quality Assurance beyond NAVSEA Standard Items 009-004 to include 9090-310, and proficiency in conducting data analysis and reporting statistics.
• Security clearance level: Secret
