Project Engineering Intern | Fortera

The Tone:
This is an internship at Fortera, a Materials Technology Company headquartered in Silicon Valley. Fortera is focused on creating zero CO2 cement by directly converting CO2 into a cement replacement, turning a problem into a product. This role supports the company’s mission to disrupt one of the largest industries in the world, contributing to a global carbon-to-value movement that will impact millions for generations to come. The intern’s work directly aids in standardizing processes and improving information management as the company scales its commercial operations.

The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Location: San Jose, CA
• Pay: $25–$30 hourly
• Team: Collaborates directly with Project Engineers and Project Managers
• Mission: Support project engineering and information management initiatives to enhance consistency and traceability across projects.
• Tech Stack: SharePoint, EDMS, Microsoft Excel

What You’ll Actually Do
• Evaluate: Determine the status of engineering documentation (current, superseded, or obsolete) based on technical and project context.
• Collaborate: Define, document, and enhance processes and procedures related to technical data and information workflows.
• Develop: Create standardized project procedures, work instructions, and templates to improve consistency, traceability, and quality.
• Identify: Recommend process improvements by identifying gaps, inefficiencies, or risks in existing information flows.
• Support: Integrate project documentation and technical data into enterprise systems and other project platforms.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Completed at least 3 years of study in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Industrial, or a similar technical discipline) by the start of the internship.
• Experience: Practical ability to understand and evaluate technical engineering information and project deliverables. Demonstrated interest in project systems, technical workflows, and process improvement, ideally with coursework or experience in project management, systems engineering, or quality management.
• Skills: Advanced attention to detail with analytical and systemic thinking skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and structured data analysis. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document processes and procedures. Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with technical stakeholders.
• Bonus: Pursuing or holding an MBA alongside an Engineering degree. A curious, problem-solving mindset focused on improving operational efficiency. Team-oriented attitude with strong organizational skills.
