Job Description
This is an Internship position at the Project Engineering Department within the Kiewit Energy US District, focusing on the OGC (Oil, Gas & Chemical) market. The employment type is Full Time Temporary, typically spanning approximately May-August for the summer. Common names for this role include Office Engineer Intern, Field Engineer Intern, Construction Coordinator, Project Engineer Intern, and Estimating Intern.
Position Overview:
This internship offers a hands-on, real-world learning experience directly related to the skills required in a full-time construction career. Interns will have the opportunity to develop, participate in, and learn key roles and functions within construction management and project engineering. The role is vital in ensuring the safety, quality, cost, and timely execution of projects, whether they involve carbon capture facilities, LNG plants, or ventures into new markets like ammonia, hydrogen, or renewable diesels. Responsibilities:
The intern will be involved in a variety of tasks crucial to construction project execution, including:
• Field engineering, operational planning, quantity and cost control, project scheduling, quantity tracking, material procurement, contract administration, estimating & supervision of field activities.
• Performing engineering tasks that require standard techniques and addressing minor technical problems arising during construction.
• Maintaining necessary records regarding job progress, costs, and material usage.
• Assisting in the execution planning and scheduling of job segments.
• Investigating problems and/or reported incidents, and identifying/recommending solutions or alternatives.
• Reviewing plans and specifications to determine material requirements (quantities and qualities) and pricing.
• Coordinating with suppliers to manage, track, and expedite the procurement and delivery of materials.
• Supporting the project management team with the planning, execution, and closeout of project-related tasks, thereby assisting in the overall execution of project engineering activities.
Qualifications:
Candidates must meet the following criteria:
• Ability to travel and frequently relocate as needed.
• Ability to work full-time during the summer (approximately May-August).
• Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field.
• Possess a strong passion for safety and the ability to contribute to a zero-harm environment.
• Ability to freely access all points of a construction site across diverse climates and environments.
