Position Summary
The Project Controls Intern will support Port Houston’s Project Controls Department in monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on capital improvement and infrastructure projects across the Port. This internship provides hands-on exposure to project planning, scheduling, cost tracking, risk analysis, and performance reporting within a large-scale public maritime environment.
Responsibilities/Duties
- Assist with tracking project budgets, expenditures, and cost forecasts.
- Support development and maintenance of project schedules and timelines.
- Compile and analyze project performance data for reporting purposes.
- Assist with reviewing change orders and project documentation.
- Prepare reports and presentations for internal stakeholders and leadership.
- Support risk tracking and mitigation documentation efforts.
- Maintain organized project files and records.
- Participate in project meetings and assist with documenting action items.
- Conduct research and assist with process improvement initiatives within the Project Controls function.
- Perform other related duties as assigned in support of Port Houston’s strategic objectives.

Eligibility Requirements
- Students must be currently enrolled in and have already completed two semesters in an undergraduate or graduate degree program.
- 2027/2028 graduation status preferred (junior/senior level).
- May 2026 graduates are not eligible unless enrolling in graduate program in Fall 2026.
- Students must either attend a Houston area college/university or have a permanent residence within a commutable distance.
- Students must be in good academic standing to apply for an internship; a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.7 is preferred.
- Students must be able to work throughout the established twelve-week (12) program dates.

- Demonstrates strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Demonstrates attention to detail.
- Ability to multi-task.
- Ability to prepare business cases and explain and/or support the recommended course of action.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including ability to listen to business partners and understand their expectations and requirements.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Willingness to learn.
- Punctuality is key.
- Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours on a limited basis to better understand the 24-hour operational cycle.
