Program Associate, Democracy Initiatives | Brennan Center for Justice
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Brennan Center for Justice, located in New York City. The Brennan Center is a nonpartisan law and policy institute that works to improve the systems of democracy and justice in the United States, holding political institutions and laws accountable to American ideals. This role is central to the Democracy Initiatives team’s ability to achieve its key goals in defending and improving American democracy, specifically by combating abuses of presidential power and countering originalism in constitutional law.

• Team: Reports to the Director of Democracy Initiatives and works under the supervision of senior and mid-level program staff.
• Mission: This individual performs administrative, research, and operational duties to help the Democracy Initiatives team defend and improve American democracy.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Research Support: Provide research, writing, fact-checking, and proofreading assistance to support the preparation of articles, speeches, reports, op-eds, and blog posts.
• Information Synthesis: Collect and synthesize information, then assist in drafting outlines, memos, talking points, presentations, correspondence, and other communications.
• Event Coordination: Provide administrative, logistics, and project management support for external events, meetings, and convenings.
• Administrative Management: Manage scheduling, expense reports, invoices, travel arrangements, and team event logistics.
• Internal Collaboration: Work with key internal stakeholders including attorneys, communications and development professionals, and other program associates.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree; this is an entry-level position where lawyers will not be considered.
• Experience: Preference for 1-2 years’ work experience, including event planning or project management.
• Skills: Exceptional writing, research, and analytical abilities; excellent organizational skills, keen attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
• Bonus: An undergraduate or graduate background in history, political science, or related disciplines; interest in pursuing a law degree; comfort with taking initiative and openness to receiving and implementing feedback.
