Healthcare Data Analyst | NC Department of Health and Human Services
The Tone:
This is a time-limited (36 months), full-time role at the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, located in North Carolina. DHHS is one of the largest and most complex agencies in the state, with approximately 17,000 employees, responsible for the health, safety, and well-being of all North Carolinians. This position plays a vital role within the Office of Emergency Medical Services by strengthening EMS and trauma services through collaboration, regulatory excellence, and statewide technical support that helps save lives every day. This role contributes to a mission-driven team dedicated to supporting emergency medical systems across the state.

• Mission: To support statewide healthcare system coordination by evaluating trends, improving data quality, and enhancing operational efficiency across EMS systems, trauma programs, and related healthcare entities.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Data Analysis: Analyze complex EMS and trauma data to inform regulatory and operational decision-making.
• Reporting & Dashboards: Support the development of reports, dashboards, and performance metrics, translating data findings into actionable insights for diverse audiences.
• Process Improvement: Evaluate workflows and business processes to identify and implement improvements that enhance efficiency and system performance.
• Data Quality: Assist with data validation and reconciliation methods to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with reporting standards.
• Stakeholder Coordination: Coordinate with program staff, technical vendors, and stakeholders to manage data requests and support system reporting needs.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution, serving as an entry-level healthcare data and program analyst.
• Experience: Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience related to data analysis, reporting, quality improvement, or operational analysis, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Skills:
• Ability to analyze complex data and translate findings into actionable reports, dashboards, and performance metrics.
• Knowledge of data validation and reconciliation methods to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with reporting standards.
• Skill in clearly communicating technical data insights through written summaries, presentations, and visual reporting tools.
• Ability to evaluate workflows and business processes to identify and implement improvements.
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate with program staff, technical vendors, and stakeholders to manage data requests.
• Bonus: Experience working in or supporting healthcare, emergency services, or other regulated service environments with exposure to data, reporting, quality improvement, or operational analysis.
