Job Description
This is a detailed description for the Product Engineering Intern – Powerwall position at Tesla.
• Job Title: Product Engineering Intern – Powerwall
• Location: Palo Alto, CA
• Start Date & Duration: This position is expected to start in August/September 2025 and continue through the entire Fall term (approximately through December 2025). There is also potential for it to extend into Winter/Spring 2026 if available. A minimum commitment of 12 weeks is required.
• Work Arrangement: The role requires full-time and on-site work (40 hours per week).
• Note for International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, it is crucial to consult your school regarding your ability to work 40 hours per week on-site before applying, as many students may be limited to part-time during the academic year.

Role Summary:
The Product Engineering Intern – Powerwall will be a key member of the Residential Energy Product Engineering team. This team is responsible for delivering comprehensive products and features that support Tesla’s residential energy business. The intern will specifically focus on defining and launching software features and functionalities necessary to scale products such as Powerwall, Solar Inverter, and Wall Connector. Additionally, the intern will contribute to the scoping and development of the next generation of energy products for Tesla’s residential energy sector.
This is a multi-faceted role that requires flexibility to apply skills across various projects to meet evolving product needs. Candidates should possess a strong technical foundation combined with the ability to understand customer and market desires. The role involves defining and executing features that maximize the value of the home energy ecosystem and communicating this value to customers in an engaging way. What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities):
• Collect market information from customers and global sales teams to understand customer needs.
• Perform technical analysis to understand product requirements.
• Prepare internal and external documents for product features.
• Organize and lead internal demonstrations of product features.
• Derive actionable insights from Tesla datasets to create compelling product marketing materials.
• Work with Program and Product Managers to track progress and highlight risks to program and roadmap.
What You’ll Bring (Required Skills & Qualifications):
• Education: Currently pursuing a Degree in Engineering, Data Science, Business, or a related field.

• Knowledge of Solar and/or Battery Systems.
• Familiarity or interest in Internet of Things (IoT) and smart home technologies.
• Experience in software development, electrical engineering, and/or residential electrical systems.
Compensation and Benefits:
• Expected Compensation: The hourly pay ranges from $20.00 – $50.00 per hour, plus benefits. Actual pay may vary based on individualized factors such as market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package may include other elements.
