Private Equity Analyst Internship | KFA

The Tone:
This is an internship at KFA, located in St. Louis, MO, with remote flexibility for U.S.-based candidates. KFA is a private investment and advisory firm focused on acquiring and building small to mid-sized businesses across the Midwest, specifically within Education, Mental Health & Wellness, and Youth & Adult Sports, while also driving community revitalization. This role matters by offering hands-on experience in sourcing original investment ideas and directly contributing to the growth and scaling of actual businesses within KFA’s portfolio, providing practical skills in long-term value creation. Interns will engage in real investment and operating work, contributing to the firm’s mission of investing in businesses, advancing business education, and revitalizing communities.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Source Deals: Research industries, identify acquisition targets, and map the St. Louis market landscape for potential investments.
• Analyze Investments: Build financial models, perform valuation work, and conduct diligence to support an original investment thesis.
• Drive Growth: Implement go-to-market planning, customer acquisition strategies, and expansion initiatives for portfolio businesses across existing investment themes.
• Create Operational Value: Develop systems, processes, and tools that enable early-stage businesses within the portfolio to scale effectively.
• Present Findings: Pitch your original investment idea to KFA leadership in a formal, investment committee-style presentation.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Undergraduate degree (in progress or completed) in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field; Entry-Level career interest in private equity, investment banking, management consulting, or entrepreneurship.
• Experience: No specific years required; demonstrated analytical skills in interpreting financial statements, market data, and business performance metrics.
• Skills: Proficiency in Excel and basic financial modeling; strong written and verbal communication for presenting findings in a structured, concise way; initiative, reliability, attention to detail, and an entrepreneurial mindset.
• Bonus: A connection to St. Louis or the Midwest; experience with data visualization or analytics tools.
