Job Description
The Legal Defense Fund (LDF) is a civil rights organization offering policy internships in their New York City and Washington, D.C. offices.
Job Description: Policy Interns will contribute to LDF’s policy efforts across several key areas: Education, Political Participation, Economic Justice, and Criminal Justice. Responsibilities include:
• Policy Research and Analysis: Conducting in-depth research on relevant policy issues.
• Memorandum Writing: Preparing concise and well-reasoned legal memoranda.
• Factual Investigation: Gathering and analyzing information to support policy initiatives.
• Development of Educational and Outreach Materials: Creating materials to educate the public on civil rights issues.
• Other tasks: Assisting with a variety of other policy-related projects as needed.
Interns will also participate in networking opportunities, including brown bag luncheons featuring prominent civil rights and public interest attorneys from various non-profit organizations.
Requirements:
• Must be a law student able to receive academic credit or funding from their law school’s public interest programs.
• While preference is given to second and third-year students, exceptional first-year students will be considered.
• Fall and Spring internships require at least 20 hours per week; Summer internships are full-time (at least 10 weeks), although flexibility may be considered.
