Police Records Clerk | City of New Haven

• Mission: Ensure the accurate and secure management of police records and information for law enforcement and public access.
• Tech Stack: Microfilming machines, copier, facsimile, typewriter, computer terminal, in-house computer systems, state computer systems (COLLECT), department radio communication system

What You’ll Actually Do
• Filing: Initiate and maintain proper files on all arrested persons using standard department recording methods.
• Verification: Perform warrant checks via manual and automated systems to ensure accuracy.
• Data Entry: Enter information into in-house and state computer systems regarding arrested and wanted persons in accordance with standard procedure.
• Information Access: Handle requests from individuals seeking information held within the Records Unit in compliance with law and regulations.
• Report Review: Review incoming Case Incident Reports filed by field personnel before their entry into the department informational system.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Graduation from standard high school, which provides foundational knowledge for clerical work.
• Experience: 1-3 years of general office experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Skills: Skill in typing accurately, ability to perform tasks consistent with learned operational procedures, ability to communicate calmly, effectively, and courteously with the public and law enforcement personnel, ability to keep all matters confidential, ability to work rotating shifts, and ability to obtain and maintain COLLECT certification.
