The Tone:

This role is vital for leading teams that define and evolve the core middleware platform, ensuring its performance, cost-efficiency, and reliability across various internal and external consumers. You will define tactical and key strategic elements for middleware evolution and drive significant cross-team improvements.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Lead Platform Teams: Guide multiple platform teams to standardize middleware patterns and client libraries used by various consumer teams.
• Define Platform Strategy: Establish group-level guardrails for APIs/SDKs, deprecation strategies, and upgrade playbooks, actively tracking adoption and risk.
• Champion Observability and Resilience: Sponsor shared observability frameworks and capacity models, review error-budget posture, and drive significant cross-team improvements to SLOs and resilience patterns.
• Oversee Software Architecture and Development: Lead teams in designing software solutions, providing technical guidance, and conducting code reviews, debugging, and performance optimization for multiple components.
• Manage Projects and Stakeholder Engagement: Manage multiple medium- to large-scale projects, ensure adherence to timelines and budgets, and drive cross-functional partnerships, engaging stakeholders to socialize migration plans and adoption playbooks.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Managerial level with expertise in leading software engineering teams, focusing on platform software development, middleware evolution, and software architecture.
• Experience: Proven experience leading multiple software development teams in designing, developing, and optimizing platform software and services. Demonstrated ability to define and enforce technical standards, manage project execution, and drive cross-team improvements in areas like observability, SLOs, and resilience. Experience with distributed debugging, upgrade safety, and issue/defect collaboration with stakeholders.
• Skills: Platform software development leadership and team management; API/SDK design, deprecation, versioning, and lifecycle management; Software architecture design, performance optimization, and scalability strategies; Observability framework sponsorship, error-budget posture review, and resilience pattern implementation; Distributed debugging, troubleshooting, and upgrade safety; Cross-functional collaboration, stakeholder engagement, and project planning/execution.
