Accounting Intern | Tyson Foods

The Tone:
This is a year-round, paid internship at Tyson Foods, located in Dakota City, NE. Tyson Foods is a Fortune 100 food company, operating a multi-billion dollar flagship beef complex. This role offers hands-on experience within the plant accounting team, providing real exposure to the financial mechanics that ensure one of the largest beef operations in the country runs smoothly. As an Accounting Intern, you will play a crucial part in supporting cattle payments, payroll, and vital yield and cost analysis that informs daily decisions for plant leadership, building a true career path into full-time roles.

• Team: Plant Accounting Team, reporting to the Plant Controller
• Mission: Ensure accurate financial operations and provide crucial data for plant leadership’s daily decision-making processes.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Excel, SAP (exposure a plus)

What You’ll Actually Do
• Process cattle payments: Help process and reconcile daily cattle payments and settlements, verifying weights and grades against contract terms and resolving discrepancies.
• Manage payroll support: Perform data entry, validation, and reconciliation for hourly and salaried plant team members.
• Analyze plant performance: Translate daily yield data into financial performance, tracking actual vs. standard yield and identifying cost variances.
• Prepare financial reports: Assist in preparing weekly and monthly financial reports and KPI packages for plant leadership.
• Resolve discrepancies: Research and resolve financial, payroll, and reporting discrepancies using problem-solving skills.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Incoming junior, senior, or graduate student with at least one semester remaining, pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance, Agribusiness, or a related field.
• Experience: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Skills: Strong numerical aptitude, attention to detail, willingness to learn plant operations.
• Bonus: SAP exposure.
