Role Overview: Planning & Control Research Intern
We are actively seeking a highly motivated and talented Planning & Control Research Intern to join our dynamic team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the cutting-edge development of reinforcement learning (RL)-based planning and control systems for our autonomous vehicles and advanced robotics platforms. The core focus of this role involves rigorous research, meticulous implementation, and comprehensive evaluation of innovative learning-based algorithms, with a strong emphasis on robust C++ implementation and a deep understanding of system-level interactions.

What You’ll Do

  • Research & Algorithm Development: Spearhead the research and C++ implementation of advanced Reinforcement Learning (RL)-based algorithms specifically tailored for planning and control in autonomous Class 8 commercial vehicles and advanced robotics platforms.
  • Prototyping & Experimentation: Design, develop, and execute rigorous simulation experiments to build functional prototypes and comprehensively evaluate the performance, robustness, and safety of developed policies.
  • Data Analysis & Insight Presentation: Conduct in-depth analysis of experimental results, distill complex data into actionable insights, and effectively present findings and recommendations to senior planning and control engineers.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Actively collaborate with a cross-functional team of world-class researchers and engineers, ensuring a seamless translation of cutting-edge theoretical concepts into practical, deployable solutions that meet real-world system constraints.

What We’re Looking For

  • Educational Background: Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. program in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
  • Core Technical Expertise: Demonstrable strong foundation and deep understanding of core principles in Reinforcement Learning (RL), Control Systems, and/or Robotics.
  • Programming Proficiency: Exceptional proficiency in C++ is mandatory, with proven comfort and experience navigating and contributing to large, complex codebases.
  • Research Acumen: A strong aptitude and proven ability to read, comprehend, and accurately implement algorithms from academic research papers and publications.
