Job Description

As the Photolithography/Thin Film Coating Manufacturing Engineer for Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control, you will be a key member of the Optical Components Center (OCC) team in Orlando, FL. Our team is responsible for designing, developing, and supporting the production life-cycle of electromagnetic grids and thin film coatings for various optical systems. This role is crucial for maintaining and enhancing manufacturing processes with a strong emphasis on photolithography and/or thin film coatings.

What You Will Be Doing

In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting manufacturing processes of optics, with a primary focus on photolithography and/or thin film coatings.
  • Designing and developing optical coatings intended for deposition on lenses and windows.
  • Defining the parameters of equipment used in these processes and establishing maintenance items for sustained equipment performance.
  • Performing thorough characterization of deposited coatings and conducting detailed data analysis.
  • Providing technical guidance and support to operators, while also developing and managing comprehensive work instructions.
  • Investigating defective hardware to determine root causes, providing next steps for getting hardware back into production, and implementing corrective actions to prevent future defects.
  • Driving the adoption of new technologies, including capital investments, automation, and robotics, to enhance efficiency and quality within manufacturing.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline from an accredited college.
  • Must have skills, experience, and/or coursework in one or more of the following categories:
    • Thin film
    • Coatings
    • Photolithography
    • Optics
  • Experience or basic training in at least one Programming Language For Data Analysis:
    • Python
    • Matlab
    • Excel VBA
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and have the ability to obtain a security clearance.

Desired Skills

Breadth in skills, experience, and/or coursework across multiple disciplines of manufacturing engineering is strongly desired. Examples include but are not limited to:

  • Writing/reviewing work instructions (or standard operating procedure manuals).
  • Data analytics.
  • Automation.
  • Mechanical design of equipment or supporting tools.
  • Maintaining the product lifecycle.
  • Working in a clean room environment.

Candidates with thin film coating specialization will ideally have:

  • Skills and/or experience in the design, manufacturing (e.g., physical vapor deposition, ion beam sputtering, chemical vapor deposition), and metrology of optical thin film coatings.

Candidates with photolithography specialization will ideally have:

  • Skills and/or experience with semiconductor fabrication processes (e.g., wafer preparation, coating, exposure, development, and etching).
  • Experience with photolithography equipment (e.g., steppers, scanners, and track systems).

General Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of process control techniques, including statistical process control (SPC), control charts, and yield enhancement.
  • Strong time management skills (ability to adjust priorities).
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Effective communication skills when collaborating with cross-functional teams, critical for supporting on-the-floor production.

Security Clearance Statement

This position requires a government security clearance. You must be a US Citizen for consideration. The required Clearance Level is Secret.

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time. The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.

Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five-day work week, while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.

Schedule for this Position: 4×10 hour day, 3 days off per week.
