This opportunity is for a role responsible for the efficient and effective collection of plasma from donors. The position involves performing venipuncture, monitoring the pheresis process, and strictly adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The role reports to the Assistant Center Manager.
The Role (Key Responsibilities):
• Plasma Collection: Perform all aspects of the pheresis procedure and plasma collection, including donor set-up, monitoring, and disconnect, in compliance with SOPs.
• Venipuncture: Conduct venipuncture on donors to initiate the pheresis process, adhering to SOPs and FDA guidelines.
• Donor Monitoring & Safety: Evaluate vein performance, identify and correct issues to ensure efficient donation and product quality, and prioritize donor safety. Adjust the process for a positive donor experience.
• Donor Education: Educate new donors on therapeutic products, the screening process, health tests, appointment system, donation fees, center policies, proper nutrition, and other pertinent information. Ensure all donor questions are answered accurately and professionally.
• Adverse Event Response: Maintain alertness for donor reactions, assist with reactions, or notify appropriate staff.
• Documentation: Use a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) to record incidents like machine alerts, alarms, volume variances, and donor adverse events.
• Equipment Management: Perform calibrations, verify maintenance as per SOPs, respond to and resolve complex equipment alarms or donor issues, and troubleshoot equipment failures. Create incident documentation and manage equipment in/out of service.
• Donor Flow Management: Monitor donor flow on the floor to ensure continuous turnover and alert supervisors of any issues.
• Sample Collection: Collect arm samples or whole blood samples from donors for testing.
• Data Accuracy: Ensure accurate recording of donor data in the electronic information management system as outlined in SOPs.
• Program Awareness: Understand policies and procedures related to hyperimmune programs if applicable.
• Work Environment Maintenance: Maintain a clean, efficient work environment, ensure sufficient operating supplies, and follow all Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) policies and procedures. Promote safety and may conduct routine audits.
• Confidentiality: Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
• Cross-training: May be cross-trained in other areas to meet business needs.
• Bilingual Skills: May be required depending on organizational needs.
• Other Duties: Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.
Your Skills And Experience:
• Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Experience: A minimum of twelve (12) months of experience in a medical or health care environment is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Working Conditions (Physical & Mental Requirements):
• Communication: Ability to complete routine forms and conduct routine oral communications. Understands, remembers, and communicates routine, factual information.
• Physical Demands: Must be able to see and speak with customers and observe equipment operation. Occasionally perform tasks while standing and walking up to 100% of the time. Requires reaching, bending, kneeling, and a high level of manual dexterity. Occasionally required to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
• Environment: Fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions. Frequently exposed to hazardous chemicals, extreme temperatures, and bloodborne pathogens.
• Safety: Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while performing specific tasks or in certain areas.
• Flexibility: Required to work overtime and extended hours to support center operational needs.
