Job Description: Pharmacy Intern
This role, titled Pharmacy Intern, is a temporary position within the Carilion Clinic Pharmacy – Crystal Spring in Roanoke, VA. The intern will work variable hours, covering shifts from Monday to Sunday, open to close.
How You’ll Help Transform Healthcare:
As an integral part of the healthcare team, the Pharmacy Intern operates under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist. The primary objective is to provide comprehensive pharmacy services to customers and support the Pharmacist in delivering Pharmaceutical Care. The job description also states the Pharmacy Intern performs duties akin to a “Pharmacy Technician” to support the Pharmacist.
Main Areas of Responsibility:
The responsibilities for the Pharmacy Intern may include, but are not limited to, one or more of the following specialized areas:
• Basic Zone Tech: General technical support in designated pharmacy zones.
• CRCH Tech: Pharmacy technician duties specifically for Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital (CRCH).
• Non-Sterile Compounding: Preparation of non-sterile pharmaceutical compounds.
• Sterile Compounding: Preparation of sterile pharmaceutical compounds.
• Retail Pharmacy: Assisting in various tasks within a retail pharmacy setting.
Additional tasks, roles, or responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
What We Require (Minimum Qualifications):
Education:
• Candidates must be currently enrolled in an ACPE (Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education) accredited college of pharmacy, or a college of pharmacy in candidate status for ACPE accreditation.
• Must be currently enrolled in their first through fourth year of a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program.
Experience:
• Current enrollment in the first through fourth year of a Doctor of Pharmacy program is mandatory.
• Previous pharmacy work experience is preferred, but not strictly required.
License, Certification, and/or Registration:
• A valid Virginia Pharmacy Intern License is a mandatory requirement and must be obtained by the first day of employment.
Other Minimum Qualifications:
• Medication Knowledge: Ability to become familiar with a broad range of medications, including their common strengths, dosage forms, and uses.
• Accuracy: Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in all tasks.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency with computer systems and keyboard input.
• Problem-Solving: Capability to solve simple mathematical and logistical problems that arise in the work environment.
• Work Ethic: Ability to work efficiently, manage time effectively, and adhere to policies and procedures with minimal supervision.
• Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal, communication, and listening skills are essential for interacting with the healthcare team and customers.
