Pharmacy Graduate Intern | Optum (Genoa Healthcare)

The Tone:
This is an internship at Optum/Genoa Healthcare, located in Reading, PA. Optum, part of UnitedHealth Group, is a health services and innovation company focused on improving the entire health care system. This role specifically supports Genoa Healthcare, a provider of pharmacy care services to behavioral health and addiction treatment communities. As an intern, you will contribute directly to ensuring individuals with complex health conditions receive the right medications and adhere to their treatment plans, helping Genoa change lives for the better.

The TL;DR

• Mission: Ensure individuals with complex health conditions receive appropriate medications and adhere to treatment plans through direct patient care and support.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Manage medication workflow: Run refill reports and oversee the medication refill process to ensure timely patient access.
• Educate patients on treatment: Counsel consumers effectively on their medications, treatment plans, and proper drug usage.
• Administer health services: Provide immunizations to patients, adhering to all state board of pharmacy guidelines.
• Facilitate pharmacy operations: Distribute prescription drugs, manage patient records, process insurance claims, and conduct outbound patient calls.
• Uphold safety and compliance: Ensure strict adherence to safety, security, HIPAA, and all Board of Pharmacy regulations while delivering excellent customer service.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Graduate of an accredited Doctor of Pharmacy program within 24 months prior to the internship start.
• Experience: A minimum of 6 months of work experience in a pharmacy setting; actively working towards or possessing active licensure as a pharmacist intern in the state of Pennsylvania.
• Skills: Knowledge of medical and pharmacy terminology; mathematical, analytical, and critical thinking abilities; solid oral and written communication skills.
• Bonus: Active CPR certification; demonstrated ability to perform immunizations.
