Pension Finance & Data Integrity, Emerging Talent Intern (Fall) | Metropolitan Transportation Authority

The Tone:
This is an internship at Metropolitan Transportation Authority, located in New York, NY. The MTA manages vital transportation services for the metropolitan area, serving a critical role in public infrastructure. This role supports the MaBSTOA Pension Finance Unit by ensuring the financial operations and integrity of the MaBSTOA Pension Plan. The intern will contribute to accurate processing, reconciliation, and historical validation of participant contribution records, which is crucial for plan stability and member confidence.

The TL;DR

• Mission: To support the financial operations and data integrity of the MaBSTOA Pension Plan through accurate record keeping, digitization, and analysis of participant contribution records.
• Tech Stack: Oracle UCM, Microsoft Office Suite

What You’ll Actually Do
• Organize: Assist in locating, reviewing, and organizing historical pension records, including legacy reports, payment vouchers, and tax documents.
• Digitize: Convert physical and legacy documents into standardized PDF formats for long-term storage and accessibility.
• Index: Accurately index participant-specific documents into Oracle UCM utilizing appropriate metadata like Employee ID, name, and document type.
• Analyze: Support research of participant account activity by reviewing historical records to identify contribution refunds, account balances, and key financial events, and analyze legacy reports for patterns.
• Convert & Calculate: Assist in converting legacy payroll and contribution data into usable formats and support the preparation of interest calculations for Additional Member Contributions.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Matriculated undergraduate student in good standing with at least a 2.5 GPA, pursuing a degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Data Analytics, Public Administration, or a related field.
• Experience: Ability to review and interpret data across multiple sources.
• Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, strong organizational skills, analytical and problem-solving skills, clear communication, and a keen eye for detail.
• Bonus: Interest in financial systems, data management, or public sector operations.
