• Mission: This person ensures accurate and timely administrative support for patent application filings, managing deadlines and drafting necessary correspondence.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office Suite, Teams, Zoom, USPTO website, firm systems and databases
What You’ll Actually Do
• Manage USPTO Correspondence: Prepares and files responses to USPTO notices, office actions, information disclosure statements, issue fees, and publication fees.
• Conduct Document Review: Reviews patent application files to accurately prepare Information Disclosure Statements for both U.S. and international applications.
• Support Attorney Drafting: Drafts shell amendments that attorneys utilize to prepare proposed responses to outstanding office actions.
• Maintain Data Integrity: Performs accurate database input and ongoing maintenance, including the calculation of Patent Term Adjustments.
• Guide Junior Staff: Mentors, trains, and provides essential guidance and acts as a resource for Patent Paralegal Is and other staff members.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Mid-level professional with a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) and core domain knowledge in patent prosecution.
• Experience: Minimum of three years of patent prosecution experience in a professional services or law firm environment; OR, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of five years of patent prosecution experience in a law firm environment.
• Skills: Demonstrated knowledge of international and USPTO patent law rules and procedures, experience with Electronic Filing USPTO procedures, and advanced research skills using various tools including the Internet and government websites.
