Job Description
Job Title: Part-time Inpatient Registered Nurse (RN)
Unit Location: GP2, a 24-bed Medical Surgical Observation Unit (MOU) within Geisinger Medical Center.
Unit Description: GP2 is a dynamic unit designed to provide high-quality, personalized care to patients requiring evaluation and treatment for a period between 12 to 48 hours. Common conditions treated include syncope, acute kidney injury, abdominal pain, generalized weakness, chest pain, UTIs, TIA, and COPD. The nursing staff on the MOU works closely with physicians, care management, and other departments to coordinate patient care needs.
Schedule: This is a 0.5 FTE position, equating to approximately 20 hours per week, with a rotation schedule that includes every other weekend and every other holiday.
Compensation:
• Minimum hiring rate: $40.00 per hour.
• Increased rates offered for experienced individuals.
• Shift differentials: Up to $7 for evening, night, and weekend shifts.
Job Summary:
The Inpatient RN is responsible for assessing, planning, organizing, performing, and evaluating nursing activities to meet patient needs. This role involves promoting adaptive responses of patients and families to achieve the highest level of patient care, ensuring safety, and maximizing patient satisfaction. The RN exhibits compassionate care during patient-nurse interactions, coordinates patient care and staff interaction, and meets qualifications to provide care for patients in the assigned unit. A key responsibility is optimizing all interactions to ensure the very best patient and family experience.
Key Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Completes patient assessments in accordance with the scope of practice and unit standards.
• Addresses the physical, psychological, social, cultural, and spiritual needs of patients and their families throughout the continuum of care.
• Formulates, coordinates, and provides a comprehensive plan of care, including patient and family education, family needs, and discharge planning, in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
• Delivers direct patient care, including administering treatments and medications, and performing diagnostic studies according to policy and procedure.
• Evaluates the effectiveness of nursing interventions and revises the plan of care based on patient response.
• Initiates collaboration with physicians, ancillary personnel, and other interdisciplinary team members to proactively resolve and facilitate patient needs.
• Problem solves, troubleshoots, and takes corrective measures in the care and handling of medical equipment.
• Participates in unit-based decision-making, particularly concerning the utilization of evidence-based practice.
• Actively participates as a team member, working towards team goals of the unit and organization, and is accountable for unit and system-specific metrics.
• Actively participates in patient quality and safety education programs and other activities designed to improve departmental and organizational quality and safety.
Work Environment: Work is typically performed in a clinical environment.
Qualifications:
• Education: Graduate from a Specialty Training Program-Nursing (Required).
