The Tone:
This is a federal position within the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut, located in Bridgeport, CT. This Paralegal Specialist role is integral to supporting critical federal investigations and trials, contributing to the efficient functioning of government and ensuring the meticulous preparation and presentation of legal cases.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Case Analysis: Review and meticulously organize complex factual material and other documentary data to support ongoing investigations and trials.
• Legal Documentation: Prepare a comprehensive variety of substantive legal documents, including extradition requests, grand jury and trial subpoenas, and interrogatory requests.
• Data Management: Develop and accurately enter various case materials into a computer database, ensuring efficient organization and retrieval of information.
• Litigation Support: Provide essential litigation case management, which involves compiling and organizing cases for effective court presentation.
• Trial Preparation: Prepare, develop, and maintain crucial jury instructions, and create a wide range of visual exhibits for trial.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Candidates must be a U.S. Citizen or National. Eligibility for this federal position requires meeting the qualification standards for either the GS-09 or GS-11 level. This is typically achieved through a Master’s, J.D., Ph.D., LL.M., or equivalent graduate degree in a related field such as Law, Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or Business Administration, or through relevant specialized experience. Initial appointment is contingent upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication, including fingerprint, credit, and tax checks, and drug testing.
• Experience: For the GS-09 level, applicants must possess at least one full year of specialized paralegal or legal experience equivalent to the GS-07 level, demonstrating basic knowledge of legal research and the ability to interpret legal decisions. For the GS-11 level, applicants require one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level, involving analytical paralegal or legal work with practical knowledge of law, the litigation and judicial process, and applicable rules. Experience should include tasks such as examining legal documents, conducting research, drafting legal documents, analyzing case files, and preparing evidence.
• Skills: Proficiency in legal research, advanced legal document drafting, comprehensive case file analysis, practical understanding of the litigation and judicial process, efficient use of tables and citation checking software, and effective computer database management for case materials.
