• Mission: This role is responsible for providing critical paralegal support to insurance litigation cases under NY law, managing discovery, records, and research.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Medical Records Management: Review, analyze, and summarize medical records, adding relevant dates and information to create comprehensive medical chronologies; prepare HIPPA Authorization Forms for execution, and manage the retrieval and follow-up for medical records from various providers and third-party vendors.
• Discovery and Motions: Draft and prepare answers to Discovery requests, including direct client contact; prepare various discovery motions such as Motions to Extend Discovery, Motions to Compel Discovery, and Motions to Dismiss Complaints for failure to provide discovery.
• Legal Research and Analysis: Conduct thorough legal research using Westlaw and other online sources; perform specific Jury Verdict Searches using Westlaw; and Shepardize legal cases to ensure currency and validity.
• Litigation Support & Coordination: Schedule and coordinate Independent Medical Examinations (IMEs) for plaintiffs; assist in the retention of expert witnesses, involving communication and coordination with outside vendors.
• Document Production and Appeals: Oversee the production of documents, prepare appeals, motions, and maintain privilege logs for litigation cases.
The Must-Haves
• Background: This is a position for an experienced Paralegal with a strong foundation in insurance defense litigation, specifically dealing with New York law and court systems. Candidates should demonstrate a thorough working knowledge of both the Federal and New York court systems.
• Experience: Requires 5+ years of relevant experience in insurance defense litigation, including proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, hands-on experience drafting and entering time entries, and demonstrated experience utilizing Westlaw for legal research and analysis.
• Skills: Possess excellent organizational skills and a keen attention to detail to manage complex litigation tasks, alongside exceptional interpersonal and communication skills for effective client and vendor interactions.
• Bonus: A Paralegal Certificate from an ABA accredited program is preferred, though equivalent relevant years of experience will also be considered.
