The Tone:
This is a Work from Home position at HCA Healthcare, requiring the employee to live and perform duties within 60 miles of an HCA Healthcare hospital located across several states including FL, GA, ID, KS, KY, MO, NV, NH, NC, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA. HCA Healthcare is the nation’s leading provider of healthcare services, with Parallon, a part of HCA, providing comprehensive revenue cycle management for nearly 1,000 hospitals and 3,000 physician practices. This role is crucial for providing essential legal support to the Shared Service Center’s Senior Counsel and Executive Management, ensuring effective organization and management of legal activities. The Paralegal will help coordinate policies, manage legal disputes, and track collections, contributing significantly to the company’s operational compliance and success.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Strategic Legal Support: Consult with SSC Senior Counsel to coordinate and implement legal policies and procedures, perform special projects related to re-pricers, silent PPOs, Worker’s Compensation, and other third-party issues, conduct legal research, and escalate dispute issues to the Parallon Dispute Resolution Team.
• Claim & Contract Management: Review contracts, draft demand letters, work closely with HCA Strategic Pricing regarding legal disputes, contact insurance companies to escalate and resolve claim payments for unpaid, underpaid, and denied accounts, and consolidate claims for carriers in receivership or bankruptcy.
• Collection & Lien Oversight: Utilize the Legal Review Tool to track legal collection activities and prepare reports, assist with the tracking and reporting of monthly legal collections, work assigned pools and update notes, and oversee the hospital lien process for court recording and satisfaction.
• Compliance & Representative Guidance: Manage auto/tort unit representatives to ensure proper adherence to state law and company policies for handling auto/tort claims, consult with Workers Compensation representatives for adherence to applicable state law and policies, and review objections to estate claims.
• Litigation & Training Support: Provide litigation support to HCA corporate legal and outside counsel, prepare training materials and assist with legal training for staff, and handle patient complaints escalated to the Legal Department for possible risk management review.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Early Career professional with a Paralegal Degree from an accredited institution, or a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, or completion of state requirements that allow for Paralegal certification. A Paralegal Certificate is specifically required unless state regulations provide alternative means of qualification.
• Experience: A minimum of two years of combined experience in legal, collections, and/or healthcare environments is required.
• Skills: Legal research and analysis, contract review and drafting, dispute and claim payment resolution with insurance companies, tracking and reporting legal collection activities using specialized tools, and ensuring adherence to state law and company policies for claims management.
