Paralegal | Colonial Williamsburg Foundation
The Tone:
This is a full-time, non-exempt position, eligible for overtime, at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, located in Williamsburg, VA, operating in a professional office environment. The Foundation is a private, not-for-profit educational, historic, and cultural institution founded in 1926, known for owning and operating one of the largest museum complexes globally. Its mission is to preserve and restore 18th-century Williamsburg to educate and inspire people about its history. This role is integral to supporting the General Counsel and the Legal Department’s operations, ensuring legal compliance and providing essential legal support for the Foundation’s extensive activities, which include a living history museum, world-class museums, accommodations, and restaurants, engaging millions of visitors annually.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Legal Research: Research and analyze statutes, judicial decisions, legal articles, and the minutes of City Council and other governmental bodies relating to Foundation matters, as supervised by the General Counsel.
• Document Preparation: Under the supervision of the General Counsel, review, analyze, update, and prepare preliminary drafts of legal documents such as briefs, pleadings, appeals, contracts, real estate closing papers and binders, gift and trust instruments, letters, and memoranda.
• Regulatory Trend Monitoring: Monitor and analyze developing trends and changes in regulatory laws, rules, and regulations, disseminating this information through written reports and memoranda to the General Counsel and other legal team members.
• New Offering Review: Review and analyze material related to the introduction of new products and services to ensure legal alignment and compliance.
• Outside Counsel Coordination: Provide internal support to outside legal counsel with regard to investigations, claims, and litigation involving the Foundation.
The Must-Haves
• Background: A bachelor’s degree or five years of related experience. An interest in colonial history and non-profit organizations.
• Experience: Five years of related experience are preferred.
• Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication, strong critical thinking and analytical abilities, working knowledge of legal research, detail-oriented and thoroughness, reliability, willingness to learn, and the ability to work well in teams and independently with minimum supervision.
• Bonus: A bachelor’s degree.
