### About The Role

Arbour Counseling Services’ Outpatient Clinic in Worcester, MA, is thrilled to announce Clinical Internship Opportunities commencing in April/May 2026. This program represents a significant opportunity for aspiring mental health professionals to gain invaluable experience within a dynamic behavioral healthcare system.

The core mission of our Clinical Internship program is to provide high-quality training and supervision to students, deeply immersing them in the essential roles and responsibilities of a counselor/therapist. Interns will operate within a multi-leveled, multi-faceted, and multidisciplinary Behavioral Healthcare System, gaining exposure to a wide spectrum of clinical practice. We are dedicated to equipping student interns with robust clinical experience in a setting that prioritizes quality care and meticulous documentation. Our ultimate hope is that interns, enriched by their experiences at Arbour, will transition into positions both within and outside our organization, continuing to provide meaningful and quality care to individuals in need.

Our Outpatient counseling services offer patients flexibility and access to treatment options and support with a more open time schedule. While programs maintain a structured approach, outpatient care is ideally suited for those stepping down from a higher level of care, individuals seeking limited treatment options, or those exploring treatment for the first time. Arbour’s Outpatient program encompasses a comprehensive range of services, including:
Individual Therapy

### Essential Responsibilities (Learning Objectives)

By the conclusion of this comprehensive internship, successful interns will have developed a robust understanding and demonstrated proficiency in several critical areas, including:
Diagnosing Mental Health and/or Substance Use Disorders: Developing a profound understanding of the complexities associated with accurately diagnosing these disorders using the current version of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM).
Role of Counselor/Therapist: Articulating a clear understanding of the counselor/therapist’s vital role in the change-process, encompassing appropriate boundaries, collateral contacts, and consultations.
Benefits of Quality Supervision: Identifying no fewer than three significant benefits derived from engaging in high-quality clinical supervision.
Benefits of the Debriefing Process: Identifying no fewer than three distinct benefits of participating in the debriefing process, crucial for reflective practice and self-care.
Benefits of State Licensure & National Accreditation: Identifying no fewer than three critical benefits associated with achieving state licensure and national accreditation in the field.
Quality Documentation: Demonstrating the ability to submit high-quality documentation that explicitly identifies medical necessity for treatment, appropriate level of care, and demonstrable treatment progress.
Academic & Internship Requirements: Successfully meeting all the educational and practical requirements stipulated by their academic program.
Multi-disciplinary Team Approach: Stating a clear understanding of the characteristics and essential elements that contribute to a successful multi-disciplinary team approach to treatment.
Organizational Understanding: Articulating an understanding of the various roles and responsibilities of each department within the organization and how they professionally interact to ensure the provision of quality services.
Principles of Service Excellence: Demonstrating a foundational understanding of the principles and standards that define service excellence in behavioral healthcare.
Federal & State Laws: Demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of federal and state laws governing the provision of care, specifically including confidentiality laws (HIPAA and 42CFR Part 2), and their crucial role in the development of organizational policies and procedures.

### Qualifications

To be considered for this invaluable internship opportunity, candidates must meet the following criteria:
• Must possess a Bachelor’s Degree and be currently enrolled in their second year of a Master’s Level Program that leads to a license-eligible degree in a mental health field.
• Must be able to commit to and complete this internship through a full academic year.
• Candidate must possess appropriate citizenship work documentation authorizing employment in the United States.
• Candidate must successfully pass a CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) check and a drug test, as well as any other required pre-employment documentation.
