Associate, Operational & Technical Accounting | Accordion

The Tone:
This is a full-time hybrid role at Accordion, available across multiple US office locations including New York, Chicago, Dallas, Boston, San Francisco, or Los Angeles. Accordion functions as private equity’s value creation partner, delivering financial consulting driven by data, technology, and AI to support the office of the CFO. This role is vital for an Associate to join a lean, cross-functional team, identifying and rectifying complex operational and technical accounting issues to provide strategic insights and enhance financial reporting for PE-backed clients.

• Mission: Identify and rectify complex operational and technical accounting issues to drive strategic insights and enhance financial reporting for PE-backed companies.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Process Optimization: Perform deep-dives into current state processes, people, and systems to identify root causes of inefficiencies and provide recommendations for improving broken processes, bridging control gaps, and aligning roles with best practices.
• Financial Reporting Streamlining: Implement tools and creative solutions, such as materiality limits, close checklists, and calendars, to streamline the accounting function’s close process and produce accurate financial statements more quickly.
• Accounting Conversion & Audit Support: Assist with accounting basis conversions, such as cash to US GAAP, adopting key accounting standards like revenue recognition and lease accounting, and project manage the audit timeline for timely financial statement preparation.
• Post-Acquisition Integration: Design singular finance functions, unified policies and procedures, and standard charts of accounts for consolidated businesses, including selecting and implementing robust ERP solutions, conducting purchase accounting analyses, and consolidating financial reporting.
• Business Model Transformation: Guide companies through the finance and accounting implications of business model changes, such as moving from subscription-based to SaaS models, by addressing revenue recognition requirements, challenging forecasts, and evolving invoicing processes.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field, with experience in financial accounting or operations at a public accounting, financial advisory firm, or private company.
• Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in areas such as technical accounting advisory, audit readiness, and functional accounting/controllership support.
• Skills: Strong and up-to-date knowledge of US GAAP, including deep technical understanding of ASC 606 revenue recognition, lease transactions, and purchase accounting, combined with strong Excel, PowerPoint, and communication skills.
• Bonus: CPA certification and exposure to IFRS.
