Job Description: Optics Engineering Co-op
This co-op position is designed to provide hands-on experience working with Cisco’s elite optical communication products. The co-op will be assigned challenging tasks based on their current level of experience and capabilities.
Responsibilities:
• Support design verification testing (DVT): Ensure optical specifications are met over operating conditions for coherent transceivers.
• Develop calibration and test procedures: Ensure consistent high transceiver performance across a wide range of operating conditions (temperature, production variation, aging, power levels, etc.).
• Create methods, scripts, and software (SW) for control loops: Work on transmitter/receiver and performance monitoring related to power levels, GSNR/OSNR/SNR estimation.
Who you’ll work with:
You will be part of the Optics team, which focuses on the design, development, and application of optical systems and devices for high-capacity, low-power, and cost-effective network connectivity. You’ll collaborate with engineers working on technologies like optical fiber transmission, optical transceivers, and other components crucial for data centers and campus networks.
Requirements:
• Minimum Qualifications:
• Currently enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or graduate program in physics, electrical engineering, or a related field.
• Python skills and understanding of basic optics.
• Must be able to be onsite in Maynard, MA five days a week.
• Ideal Candidate:
• Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Passion for engineering.
• Comfortable working with hardware and software.
• Enjoys lab environments.
• Eager to understand complex systems and find ways to improve them.
• Previous internship experience.
