Operations Leadership Program | Nucor Corporation

The Tone:
This is a full-time operations leadership program at Nucor Corporation, North America’s largest steel and steel products manufacturer. While training may begin in various regions including Houston, Orlando, or Cincinnati, future relocation to different company locations is a requirement of the program. This role is designed to immerse individuals in the scrap metal recycling business from the ground up, preparing them to assume significant leadership responsibilities. Participants will contribute to Nucor’s core values of safety, efficiency, and personal connections, enriching both the company and the communities it serves.

• Pay: $77,000 yearly
• Mission: To thoroughly learn all facets of the scrap metal recycling industry from the ground up to assume a Leadership role upon completion.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Comprehensive Training: Complete a 12-18 month hands-on training program to thoroughly learn all facets of the scrap metal recycling industry, including frequent travel and working outside in industrial environments.
• Safety Leadership: Actively model and uphold Nucor’s “Safety First” culture, integrating OSHA practices and daily operational safety standards into all duties.
• Operational Management: Oversee day-to-day operations of the scrap processing and recycling business, encompassing buying, inspecting, transportation, logistics, and equipment maintenance.
• Stakeholder Collaboration: Interact with corporate personnel, customers, vendors, and teammates to resolve problems, ensure product delivery, and contribute to organizational planning.
• Strategic Problem-Solving: Identify business trends and recommend proactive actions to manage business situations, protect company assets, and enhance profitability.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a Business discipline, Operations, Management, or Supply Chain, with an entry-level career focus.
• Experience: No specific years of prior experience are required, but candidates must demonstrate exceptional organizational skills and adaptability.
• Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication, ability to build relationships, efficient collaboration with team members, and confident decision-making in changing environments.
• Bonus: A continuous improvement mindset, ability to interface effectively with customers and teammates, previous leadership experience, strong safety focus, and bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
