Description: Operations Internship
BWXT offers paid internships (approximately 10-12 weeks) with a housing stipend for those living over 50 miles from Barberton, OH. Interns will work on challenging tasks directly related to maintaining and improving manufacturing processes. The internship culminates in a presentation of completed work to the leadership team.
Responsibilities:
• 5S or area organization
• Layout of work cells/areas
• Creation of process maps or assistance with tasks (skill-dependent), workflow
• Work cell optimization, basic equipment needs identification
• Interfacing with tooling needs (fixtures, cutters/inserts)
• Internship setup preparation
• Process improvement
• Equipment condition evaluation, creation of preventative maintenance schedules
• Equipment specification, justification, procurement
• Safety evaluations of existing and proposed setups, interfacing with the Safety Department as required
• Basic data collection and analysis, report creation
• Tracking and potentially assisting with training (excluding Training Department scope)
• Equipment/machinery load studies, scheduling impacts
Requirements:
• Sophomore standing or above in a 2-year or 4-year degree program.
• Relevant majors include Operations Management, Industrial Engineering/Technology, or Mechanical Engineering/Technology.
• Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• U.S. citizenship (no dual citizenship).
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance.
Preferred Currently pursuings:
Coursework or hands-on experience in operations, operations management, factory layout or work cell design, fabrication, welding, machining, statics, mechanics of materials, and/or solid modeling.
