Fall 2026 Operations Undergraduate Internship | Brennan Center for Justice

The Tone:
This is an internship at Brennan Center for Justice, located in New York, NY. The Brennan Center is a nonpartisan law and policy institute dedicated to improving the systems of democracy and justice in the United States. The organization works to hold political institutions and laws accountable to the twin American ideals of democracy and equal justice for all. Functioning as part think tank, part advocacy group, and part cutting-edge communications hub, the Center begins with rigorous research, crafts innovative policies, and fights for them in Congress, the states, the courts, and the court of public opinion. This role is crucial for providing essential operational support to the Manager of Administration and Special Projects and Office Manager, enabling the smooth functioning of the Operations team and the wider organization’s mission.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Provide General Administrative Support: Assist with essential office tasks such as filing, photocopying, shipping, and mailing for the Brennan Center.
• Manage Communications and Correspondence: Handle answering phones, drafting routine correspondence, and covering the reception desk to greet visitors.
• Coordinate Meetings and Events: Support the coordination of meetings and provide logistical assistance for various events hosted by the Center.
• Conduct Research and Clerical Work: Perform research tasks and other general clerical duties to support the Operations team.
• Observe Program and Policy Initiatives: Attend and observe substantive meetings, events, and conversations related to the Center’s program and policy work.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently an undergraduate student with a demonstrated passion for the Brennan Center’s core issues, including voting rights, campaign finance reform, ending mass incarceration, and preserving constitutional protections.
• Experience: Proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word is a must. No specific prior professional experience is required.
• Skills: Possess excellent research, writing, and analytical skills. Must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and punctual. Able to find solutions independently with minimal supervision. Comfortable speaking on the phone and greeting visitors effectively.
• Bonus: A friendly, cheerful, positive, and energetic demeanor. Resourceful, an independent self-starter who is open to evolving responsibilities, and possesses a good sense of humor.
