Job Description

Operations Manager | WM

The Tone:
This is a full-time, hybrid role at WM. WM provides comprehensive waste management services, supporting residential and commercial lines of business. This role is crucial for ensuring the successful onboarding, development, and performance of all frontline drivers and helpers. By fostering positive relationships and spending significant time in the field, this manager directly contributes to employee growth, safety, and the efficient delivery of services.

• Mission: Ensure the successful onboarding, development, and performance of frontline drivers and helpers while fostering positive relationships.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Onboarding & Development: Guide and support new frontline employees through their initial onboarding journey, ensuring they receive the necessary tools, clear instruction, and consistent feedback for successful daily duties. You will meet with new employees daily to provide support and maintain communication during this critical phase.
• Performance Coaching: Drive continuous performance improvement by providing timely and consistent touchpoints with all frontline employees. This includes regular review of best practices to enhance daily performance, identifying improvement opportunities, and collaborating with employees to ensure their continued success through active coaching conversations.
• Safety Leadership: Champion a culture of safety by leading through example, ensuring safety practices are paramount with each employee. You will conduct thorough Root Cause Investigations for all injuries and incidents, ensuring consistent discipline and retraining to prevent future occurrences.
• Operational Compliance: Ensure regulatory adherence and operational efficiency through meticulous documentation. This involves maintaining records required by regulatory agencies like the Department of Transportation and performing daily audits of route operations documentation, such as DVIRs, driver time and attendance, and open tickets, with appropriate follow-up.
• Employee Engagement & Growth: Foster positive relationships and employee growth by focusing on understanding and supporting the progress of their career goals. This includes teaching and developing a comprehensive understanding of the WM Way, and visiting customer sites to evaluate and resolve safety issues while seeking service alternatives.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Candidates must possess an Associate’s Degree from an accredited institution. Alternatively, individuals holding a High School Diploma from an accredited institution combined with two years of relevant work experience are also eligible.
• Experience: A minimum of two years of relevant work experience is required for this position. Additionally, applicants must be at least 18 years of age, legally eligible to work in the country where the position is located, and hold a valid Driver’s License.
• Skills: Demonstrated proficiency in employee coaching, mentoring, and development; strong capabilities in performance management and fostering positive relationships; expertise in safety practices, including leading by example and conducting thorough incident investigations; and the ability to manage regulatory documentation and audit route operations daily.
• Bonus: Successful completion of the WM Operations Manager Trainee program is a preferred qualification for this role.
