Operational Technology (OT) Cybersecurity Intern | Jacobs

The Tone:
This is an internship at Jacobs, a company providing critical infrastructure solutions across the US. This role offers hands-on experience within the Operational Technology (OT) Cybersecurity Design & Integration team. You will contribute to securing essential systems in water utilities, data centers, and transportation, where robust cybersecurity is vital for safety, resilience, and regulatory compliance. Your work will directly support efforts to protect the critical infrastructure that communities rely on.

• Mission: Support projects that design, integrate, and secure industrial control systems and OT networks within critical infrastructure environments.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Design Research: Research and document existing environmental conditions (Brownfield) and new design options (Greenfield) as directed by the Design Team Lead.
• Diagram and Data Development: Develop Visio diagrams illustrating network topologies and process flows, and create spreadsheets to capture design-related data.
• Engineering Support: Assist engineering efforts in developing industrial control systems (ICS) and OT networks, including contributing to Functional and Detail Design documentation.
• Implementation Activities: Participate in system implementation and integration tasks such as inventory inspection, equipment assembly and racking, cabling, labeling, and configuration under engineer direction.
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Aid other internal groups in delivering client-focused solutions that blend cybersecurity consulting with network design, engineering, and digital technologies.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently pursuing a degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Experience: Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks such as NIST CSF or IEC 62443.
• Skills: Analytical thinking, attention to detail, strong written and verbal communication, ability to work independently, curiosity, willingness to tackle complex challenges, enthusiasm for OT and critical infrastructure protection, proficiency with Microsoft 365 Suite, good organizational skills, and teamwork.
• Bonus: Understanding of Network technologies, knowledge of ICS/OT environments (SCADA, PLCs, industrial networks), experience in cybersecurity competitions (e.g., Capture the Flag) or case challenges, and proficiency with Microsoft Visio and Project.
