Position Summary
As a Nursing Intern, you will:
- Function as a temporary member of the health care team providing patient care.
- Utilize this temporary position to learn and develop skills essential for a future Registered Nurse.
- Promote the delivery of quality patient care through the implementation of the nursing process for all age groups.
- Function as a patient advocate, seeking to improve services and performing duties in a fiscally responsible manner.
- Maintain an atmosphere that consistently supports and enforces South Georgia Medical Center’s values, goals, policies, and procedures.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
To succeed in this role, you should possess:
- High school graduate or GED equivalent.
- Completion of junior year of an approved RN School of Nursing is required.
- Current CPR certification.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients/families and staff members.
- Ability to work well both individually and as a team member.
- Ability to adapt to new situations, set priorities, and use problem-solving techniques positively.
- Ability to read and interpret policies and standards of care related to patient care issues.
- Ability to function under the supervision of an RN and in collaboration with other discipline’s team members.
- Ability to communicate clearly with, and care for a diverse population of patients/family units of all ages, cultures, and/or persons occasionally exhibiting stressed behavior.
Working Conditions – ADA Information
This role primarily operates in a hospital setting and may involve rotating shifts and units. It requires moderate to frequent lifting (excess of 50 lbs), bending, and assisting in the same using correct techniques. You must be able to operate office equipment, computer terminals and keyboards, and computerized lab equipment. Exposure to blood and body fluids and infectious diseases is likely on a daily basis. Extensive walking during shifts is required. The physical functional capacity for this role is defined as “very heavy” by the Saunders Method for healthcare workers.
