Job Description: Nurse Extern I

Summary of the Role:
The Nurse Extern I is an entry-level direct patient care role operating under the direct supervision and guidance of a Registered Nurse. The primary responsibility is to perform a range of direct patient care activities, adhering strictly to the policies and procedures established by the Nursing Department. This role is designed to assist with the care of hospitalized patients and may include additional functions as dictated by hospital and departmental policies, procedures, and protocols.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:
• Perform various direct patient care activities as assigned and directed by a Registered Nurse.
• Assist Registered Nurses and other healthcare professionals in providing care to hospitalized patients.
• Adhere strictly to all Nursing Department policies, procedures, and relevant hospital protocols.
• May be assigned other related functions to support patient care and departmental operations.

Required Qualifications and Skills:
Education: Must be currently enrolled in an accredited school of professional nursing, pursuing either an Associate Degree (ADN) or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) to become a Registered Nurse (RN).
Clinical Experience: Must have successfully completed their first clinical rotation within their nursing program and maintain good academic standing.
Skills: Demonstrated proficiency in basic nursing tasks.
Certification: American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required within two (2) weeks of employment.

Preferred Experience:
• Six (6) months of experience in a hospital setting is preferred, though not mandatory for consideration.

Work Schedule and Type:
Schedule: To Be Determined (TBD). Specific shifts and hours will be arranged.
Work Type: Per Diem As Needed, indicating a flexible employment arrangement where hours may vary based on the needs of the department.
