Mobile Software Engineer Intern | Muru Inc

The Tone:
This is a part-time internship at Muru Inc, located in New York City with a hybrid work policy. Muru builds cutting-edge digital tools for medics, tackling the significant problem of making medical decisions from protocols scattered across numerous PDFs, printed documents, agencies, and websites. By developing a ‘Siri of Protocols,’ Muru enables medics to instantly access crucial information. This role contributes to a business-critical mobile application used by frontline medics, directly impacting patient care by ensuring every patient receives the highest standard of care and building trust with clients ranging from the State of New York to the Department of Defense.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Mobile UI Development: Execute improvements and fix bugs within a large Flutter mobile application’s user interface, ensuring a smooth and functional user experience.
• Design System Enhancement: Collaborate on improving the application’s design system and developing reusable UI widgets to maintain consistency and efficiency.
• Data Integration: Work with a GraphQL API to precisely fetch and effectively display crucial data within the mobile application.
• Comprehensive Testing: Conduct thorough manual testing across iOS and Android platforms, and establish automated widget and UI tests to ensure application quality.
• App Logic & State Management: Implement robust app state management, integrate with various backend APIs, and handle local data and caching to support new and existing features, including creating unit and integration tests for the application’s logic.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Student actively pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field.
• Experience: Demonstrable experience writing clean, maintainable code in an object-oriented language (such as Java, Dart, Kotlin, Swift, or TypeScript), coupled with a strong interest in developing mobile applications using modern frameworks like Flutter, React Native, SwiftUI, or Jetpack Compose.
• Skills: Proficiency in at least one object-oriented programming language; comfort and familiarity with basic command-line terminal operations, including navigating directories and running scripts; a keen interest in designing and building polished mobile user interfaces and reliable application features; demonstrated eagerness to learn the full software development lifecycle, including building, testing, and shipping production code; excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration within the team.
