Staff Accountant/Auditor | Myers & Stauffer
The Tone:
This is an early career Staff Accountant/Auditor position at Myers & Stauffer, a certified public accounting and health and human services consulting firm with 21 offices and over 900 associates nationwide. The company specializes in audit, accounting, data management, and consulting services for government-sponsored healthcare programs, primarily state Medicaid agencies and the federal Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services. This role is crucial for assisting government clients with complex healthcare reimbursement and provider compliance issues, ultimately supporting programs for those in need.
The TL;DR

• Mission: This person conducts audits and reviews of Medicaid and other government healthcare programs to ensure provider compliance and accurate reimbursement calculations.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Review and Analyze: Perform reviews of Medicaid provider cost reports and analyze health care provider financial information.
• Conduct Audits: Conduct desk reviews and various on-site audits, including planning, research, risk assessment, fieldwork, and reporting of findings.
• Prepare Documentation: Prepare working papers to document the scope and findings of audits in accordance with Medicaid or other government program regulations and AICPA standards.
• Ensure Compliance: Conduct research to determine billing and reimbursement compliance with relevant Medicaid or other government program regulations.
• Communicate Findings: Prepare written documents supporting professional decisions and demonstrate excellence in communication skills, data gathering, analysis, and reporting.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field. This is an early-career position.
• Experience: Internship or equivalent working experience in accounting or a related field.
• Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; strong verbal and written communication skills; well-organized with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail; proficient use of Microsoft Office Applications (Excel, Word).
• Bonus: Master’s degree in accounting or a related field; CPA or CPA candidate; experience with health care auditing and data analysis; ability to review statutory/regulatory or other policy language and apply requirements; ability to travel based on client and business needs.
