Media and Marketing Internship – Anthony L. and Hideko S. Burgess Interactive Learning Center (ILC)
Location: Virginia Beach, VA
Join our dedicated team at the Anthony L. and Hideko S. Burgess Interactive Learning Center (ILC), a cutting-edge exhibit situated within Operation Smile’s Global Headquarters. The ILC is designed as a “Window to the World,” offering visitors an immersive journey alongside individuals affected by cleft conditions. This experience highlights their pursuit of essential safe surgery and comprehensive care, educating students, the community, and visitors to Virginia Beach about diverse cultures, medical advancements, global geography, and leadership principles.
As a Media and Marketing Intern, you will play a crucial role in developing and executing a collaborative communications strategy that supports the ILC’s compelling storytelling and brand identity. Beyond communications, you will also contribute to daily operational tasks, including managing program materials, assisting with events, and leading both virtual and in-person visitor experiences. This is an unpaid internship opportunity with a minimum commitment of three months.
Essential Functions:
- Visual Content Creation: Capture high-quality photographs during ILC tours and special events.
- Visitor Engagement & Feedback: Interact with ILC tour guests to gather valuable quotes, testimonials, and feedback from various tours and events.
- Editorial Support: Assist in the writing and development of articles for the ILC newsletter.
- Documentation & Compliance: Collect consent forms from tour guests for photo usage and publishing, then meticulously scan and maintain these files.
- Social Media & Intranet Management: Conduct research on current social media trends, contribute engaging content for ILC social media platforms and intranet pages, and track relevant analytics.
- Multimedia Production: Provide support for video editing projects and scriptwriting initiatives.
- Operational Support: Actively assist with ILC tours and provide comprehensive support for various events.

Qualifications:
Requirements:
- Software Proficiency: Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Education: High School graduate required; some college coursework is preferred.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
- Digital Marketing: Solid knowledge of various social media platforms and prior experience with content creation.
- Work Ethic: Ability to work effectively and efficiently both independently and as part of a team.
- Problem-Solving: Proven ability to identify problems, research, and implement effective solutions.
- Experience (Preferred): 1-2 years of customer service or administrative experience is a plus.
- Writing (Preferred): Creative writing experience is highly desirable.
Time Commitment:
- Weekly Hours: Ability to commit to a minimum of 10-15 hours per week; opportunities for more hours are available if desired.
- Availability: Primarily Monday – Friday, typically between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Occasional availability after hours may be required for specific tours or events.
- Commute: Must be able to reliably commute to the Global Headquarters office located in Virginia Beach, VA.
