Job Summary: Mechanical Engineering Summer Intern (Summer 2026)

Are you a proactive and ambitious mechanical engineering student ready to contribute to impactful projects? We are seeking a bright and enthusiastic Mechanical Engineering Summer Intern to join our dedicated team at Mason & Hanger for Summer 2026. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience by supporting our Mechanical/Plumbing Department engineers. You will play a crucial role in the design process, assisting with CAD/BIM platform integration, performing essential engineering calculations, and undertaking various supporting tasks vital to our engineers and designers. This role is perfect for someone eager to learn and grow within a dynamic, mission-driven environment.

As the Mechanical Engineering Summer Intern, here’s the work you’ll do:

Perform Design Calculations: Under the direct supervision of experienced engineers, you will execute preliminary design calculations, contributing to the foundational engineering decisions for critical facilities.
Incorporate Marked-Up Drawings into CAD/BIM Platforms: You will be responsible for accurately translating marked-up revisions and design changes into our Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Building Information Modeling (BIM) platforms, ensuring design consistency and accuracy.
Perform Selections and Schedules Simple Equipment: You will assist in the selection and scheduling of fundamental mechanical equipment, such as fans, VAVs (Variable Air Volume units), and GRDs (Grilles, Registers, and Diffusers), learning about their specifications and applications.
Assist in Cost Estimate Preparation: Contribute to the financial planning of projects by helping to prepare cost estimates, gaining insight into project budgeting and resource allocation.
Assist in Assembly of Project Submittals: Support the compilation and organization of comprehensive project submittal packages, an essential step in project approval and execution.
Comply with Data Protection Principles: Rigorously adhere to documented policies, standard operating procedures, and secure practices for handling personal, protected, and/or Covered Defense Information, safeguarding trusted employee and customer data on behalf of Day & Zimmermann.

KSAs (Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities):

Self-Motivated: Demonstrate a proactive and driven approach to tasks, exhibiting initiative and the ability to work independently while seeking guidance when needed.
Communication Proficiency: Possess strong verbal and written communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with team members and clear articulation of technical information.

Minimum Qualifications:

Currently enrolled in an ABET accredited college studying mechanical engineering, demonstrating a foundational understanding of engineering principles.
U.S. citizenship is required for this position due to the sensitive nature of our work and applicable federal contract requirements.
• Possess a great attitude and be a team player, contributing positively to our collaborative work environment.
• Successful completion of a background and drug screening process is mandatory.

On-Site Presence: Ability to regularly perform all job functions at the Company’s designated office or worksite.

Compensation And Benefits:

In compliance with state pay transparency laws, the wage range for this role is $17.75 – $19.75 per hour.
