Job Description: Mechanical Engineering Intern
This role is for a Mechanical Engineering Intern and will be a part of the Mechanical Engineering team. The intern will report directly to the mechanical engineering manager. This is described as a small team of highly motivated people who are involved in designing, testing, and flying advanced mechanical systems. The team emphasizes cradle-to-grave hardware ownership and hands-on participation in the build, test, and integration of their designs.
Responsibilities:
As a Mechanical Intern, the individual will own at least one project from its early conceptual design all the way through to installation on the development aircraft. The company’s intention for interns is to provide a full experience of the hardware development cycle. All intern projects are considered high priority and value-added efforts, directly contributing to the company’s automated flight systems.
Basic Success Criteria (Required Qualifications):
• Currently a Junior or Senior in a 4-year college degree program in mechanical engineering or possess equivalent practical experience.
• A solid understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals, including statics, dynamics, and materials.
• Proficiency in NX or similar CAD software and Simcenter or similar FEA packages.
• A demonstrated passion for mechanical or electromechanical hardware.
Preferred Success Criteria (Desirable Qualifications):
• Hands-on application of mechanical systems gained through classes, clubs, or hobbies.
• Experience in applying both hand calculations and Finite Element Method (FEM) to predict failure modes.
• Ability to design, build, and operate mechanical test stands.
• Excellent measurement, technical writing, and data analysis skills.
• An eagerness to both teach and learn.
Logistics and Compensation:
• Location: The position will be located at the company’s facility in Mountain View, California.
• Salary: The estimated annualized salary for this internship position is $94,000.
