Job Description: Mechanical Engineer Intern (Forensics Practice)

Thornton Tomasetti is offering a full-time fall internship opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer Intern within its Forensics Practice. This internship will run from September 2025 through December 2025.

The intern will work closely with a multi-disciplinary team of staff engineers and architects, providing assistance on a variety of tasks for active projects. While daily project work can vary significantly, typical responsibilities may include:

On-site survey, investigation, and documentation of building conditions, with a focus on mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), and fire protection systems.
• Assisting in the preparation of field notes.
• Supporting the engineering team in preparing technical and investigative reports to substantiate forensics findings and developing materials for presentations.
• Conducting review and research of applicable building codes, ASHRAe standards, and other relevant industry standards.
• Assisting the engineering team with the preparation of drawings and specifications, and providing support for construction administration services.

Required Skills:

• Familiarity and comfort with Microsoft Suite programs (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Proficiency with CAD programs (e.g., AutoCAD).

Preferred Skills (a plus, but not required):

• Familiarity with Revit
• Familiarity with MicroStation
• Familiarity with Bluebeam
