Social Media Assistant Intern | Services for the UnderServed

The Tone:

This role offers practical experience in digital asset management, content strategy, and visual storytelling, directly contributing to the organization’s visibility and impact through compelling communication.

• Team: Marketing Communications department; collaborates closely with the Marketing Communications team.
• Mission: Organize and maintain digital media libraries while assisting with social media content creation and channel management to enhance the visibility of S:US’s mission.
• Tech Stack: Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, Threads, Bluesky, TikTok, Scheduling tools

What You’ll Actually Do
• Organize Digital Assets: Audit, consolidate, and structure digital media libraries, applying metadata and naming conventions to improve searchability and consistency.
• Create Social Content: Draft and schedule social media posts with suggested visuals across multiple platforms, while researching content ideas and maintaining the content calendar.
• Gather Visuals: Capture photos and short-form video content from S:US program sites across NYC, requiring travel to various locations.
• Document Stories: Collect quotes and short narratives from program participants or staff, respectfully documenting lived experiences in alignment with consent guidelines.
• Analyze Performance: Monitor social media engagement, track interactions, and support the creation of monthly performance summaries.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Student currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a communications, marketing, journalism, digital media, library science, or related program.
• Experience: Familiarity with digital asset management, social media platforms, emerging digital trends, and basic photo/video capture and editing.
• Skills: Strong organizational skills, strong writing skills, an understanding of tone, voice, and visual storytelling, and a proactive, detail-oriented approach.
• Bonus: An interest in nonprofit communications and mission-driven storytelling.
