About the Job: Manufacturing Engineering Intern
This internship is for individuals passionate about manufacturing processes and eager to own independent projects.
• Team Focus: The manufacturing team is responsible for the research and development of manufacturing processes for all Formlabs products. They operate cross-functionally, collaborating with mechanical design, electrical, software, and materials teams, as well as an international network of factories and specialized suppliers.
• Internship Term: Winter/Spring (approximately January 11 – April 24)
• Commitment: Full-time
• Location: Onsite in Somerville, MA
Key Responsibilities:
As a Manufacturing Engineering Intern, you will:
• Support end-to-end test and calibration equipment development, which includes fixture design, fabrication, qualification, inventory/asset management, and preventive maintenance plans.
• Project manage manufacturing builds, both internal to Formlabs and with overseas vendors, and take ownership of technical troubleshooting for issues on the manufacturing line.
• Co-develop methods, processes, procedures, and work instructions to facilitate the building of Formlabs’ next-generation products.
Required Qualifications (“You”):
The ideal candidate will possess:
• Working proficiency with CAD software (e.g., Onshape, Solidworks, Fusion etc.) and skill in creating 2D drawings.
• A strong ability to debug, test, and identify the root causes of electromechanical problems.
• A hands-on, self-motivated approach, with a genuine love for working on hardware.
• Excellent organizational skills, being meticulous and detail-oriented.
• The ability to work independently and be a self-starter, coupled with strong communication skills.
• Experience with statistical analysis and data visualization tools (such as SQL, Tableau, JMP, Minitab, etc.).
• Experience with Python.
Nice To Have Qualifications:
While not strictly required, the following skills are a plus:
• A desire to understand the system-level interactions of complex electro-mechanical products.
• An understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) principles for defining and evaluating part quality.
